The traditional 12-Steps were a groundbreaking gift to the world—saving lives, restoring families, and proving that recovery is possible. Yet for many survivors of abuse, addiction, adultery, and abandonment (what we call “4-A behavior”), some of that same language and structure can land like lemon juice on an open wound. The harm was never intentional; it was simply a product of the best knowledge available at the time. Today we know more about trauma, the brain, and the body’s instinctive drive to survive—so it’s time to build a better bridge to healing.
Enter TS-12 Anon: 12-Steps Re-Imagined for Survivors
TS-12 Anon doesn’t discard the wisdom of the original program; it evolves it. Rooted in current trauma science and a prodependent trauma model that celebrates healthy connection, TS-12 Anon welcomes those whose life has been shaken by another person’s destructive choices. This inclusive approach reframes “character defects” as adaptive coping, replaces shame with self-compassion, and offers flexible tools that honor each survivor’s unique journey.
In short: the revolution isn’t about tearing down a legacy; it’s about using today’s insight to create space for every survivor to truly heal.
For Anyone Who’s Ever Felt Left Behind—There’s a Place Here
TS-12 Anon is a healing space designed with survivors in mind. Whether learning how to breathe again after years of chaos, healing from a major event, or something else, this program meets participants where they are—with tenderness, truth, and deep respect for each individual story.
Groups may be peer-led or facilitated by professionals, allowing flexibility to meet a wide range of needs and levels of trauma. Grief is not overlooked but welcomed as a sacred and essential part of the healing process. And coping mechanisms are not treated as moral failings—but honored as adaptive strategies, born in survival and ready for acknowledgment and healing.
Healing Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All—And Neither Is TS-12 Anon
Every survivor’s path is unique. Some come with deep spiritual wounds, others with a longing to reconnect. Some carry intense grief, while others are just beginning to name what they’ve been through. In trauma healing, there is no straight line—and there shouldn’t be.
TS-12 Anon honors this truth.
Built on a flexible, trauma-sensitive framework, TS-12 Anon allows participants to engage at their own pace and from their own place in the healing journey. The program acknowledges that what supports one person may overwhelm another, and that true healing must make space for differences in readiness, background, and experience.
Inventories and step work are offered with adaptability in mind—encouraging creativity, honoring pacing, and allowing survivors to move through the process in ways that feel both safe and empowering.
Focusing on What Can Be Done—With Self-Compassion and Boundaries at the Core
When life has been shaped by someone else’s chaos, it’s easy to feel powerless. TS-12 Anon offers a different way—one that gently shifts the focus from what cannot be controlled to what still lives within reach. This is not about surrendering to helplessness, but awakening to strength. Here, healing begins with self-compassion: the kind that cradles shame in kindness, that honors pain without judgment, and that dares to believe gentleness is strength, not softness. In TS-12 Anon, self-compassion isn’t a step—it’s a thread, woven through the entire journey.
Boundaries, too, are sacred here. Not harsh lines drawn in fear, but living expressions of truth and self-respect. Participants are invited to notice what feels safe, to name what no longer serves, and to build lives rooted in clarity and care. Boundaries are how survivors reclaim space—not just in relationships, but within their own hearts.
Words Matter—So We Reimagined Them
The language has been softened, not to dilute truth, but to hold it with compassion. Because when words reflect dignity, healing begins before a single step is even taken.
These changes aren’t just semantic—they are soul-level shifts. For example, where traditional programs emphasize surrender, TS-12 Anon reframes this as a balance between letting go of what cannot be controlled and actively engaging in what can be done. Through concepts like the R.E.S.T. process (See step 3), participants learn to release burdens to their Higher Power while embracing practical action through emotional regulation, soul-care, and boundaries.
By replacing stigmatized terms like “defects” and “insanity” with language grounded in compassion, TS-12 Anon validates trauma responses as survival strategies. Not moral failings. This shift makes space for honest self-reflection without shame, and for healing that is empowering, inclusive, and deeply transformative.
Expanding the Vision—Partnering to Reach Specific Survivor Communities
The original TS-12 Anon book was written to serve a broad community of survivors—those impacted by another’s abuse, addiction, adultery, or abandonment (4-A behavior). It was created as a foundational resource, trauma-sensitive and adaptable, to support diverse individuals walking the path of healing.
As the need continues to grow, so does our vision.
We are now exploring partnerships with credible, well-documented organizations to adapt the TS-12 Anon framework for more specific populations. These adaptations aim to honor the unique needs, language, and experiences within each group—while preserving the heart of trauma-informed, step-based healing. Current areas of exploration and/ or development include:
- Survivors of sexual violence
- Those experiencing betrayal trauma
- Individuals impacted by emotionally immature or personality-disordered loved ones
- Survivors of a loved one’s suicide
We want the public to be aware that these tailored versions are being thoughtfully explored and/or developed—and we welcome collaboration. If your organization serves any of these populations and is passionate about bringing trauma-sensitive healing tools to those you support, we invite you to introduce your organization to us.
Together, we can extend hope to the margins—creating safe, meaningful spaces where healing is possible for everyone.
A New Chapter in Healing Has Begun
TS-12 Anon isn’t just a program—it’s a movement. A reclamation. A sacred invitation to survivors to step into healing that honors the truth of what happened, the strength it took to survive it and provides a path towards genuine healing. This is where shame ends and compassion begins. Where healing is no longer confined by outdated models, but opened wide by the wisdom we now hold.
This revolution in language, structure, and spirit was born from lived experience, deep faith, and the unwavering belief that healing is not only possible—it is sacred, personal, and deserved. For every person who has ever walked out of a traditional meeting feeling unseen or retraumatized, TS-12 Anon exists to say:
Dear trauma survivor: We believe you. Healing has a place for you. You belong here.

H.E.R. Wings Unfold is the proud parent organization of TS-12 Anon; a NEW trauma-sensitive 12-step program for survivors of another’s painful or destructive behavior.
