Dear Amazing Survivor,
If you’re reading this with tears in your eyes, a tightness in your chest, or a quiet ache in your soul—you are not alone. I know what it’s like to sit in the wreckage of another person’s choices and wonder if you’ll ever feel whole again.
Abuse. Addiction. Adultery. Abandonment.
The 4 A’s.
These are more than words. They are storms—violent, disorienting, and devastating. They all create power differentials and can shake our sense of self, our sense of safety, and our hope for the future.
Let me tell you something I wish I had understood in my early darkest moments:
You are not crazy.
You are not weak.
And you are absolutely not alone.
At H.E.R. Wings Unfold, we exist because far too many women are left to carry trauma in silence. I didn’t start this organization just as a professional—I started it as a woman who has lived this pain. I know how isolating it can be to face wounds society often overlooks. I know what it feels like to try explaining my story only to be met with confusion, dismissal, or blame.
But I also know this:
Healing is possible.
Even when it feels impossible.
Even when you’re not sure where to begin.
H.E.R. stands for Heal. Empower. Rise. That’s our mission—and it’s also our invitation to you. Whether you’re picking up the first broken pieces or are years into rebuilding your life, you deserve a space where your story is honored, your needs are met with compassion, and your future is no longer defined by someone else’s harm.
We’re building that space—through trauma-sensitive recovery groups, advocacy, future plans for safe housing, employment assistance, and emotional support. Together, we rise from the ashes of another’s destructive behavior.
And not just to survive—but to thrive.
To soar.
A simple way to begin is by attending a TS-12 Anon meeting—our brand-new trauma-sensitive 12-Step program. One participant shared:
“The gentle environment is nurturing and hopeful, and provides much-needed compassion for wounded souls.”
This is a place to begin healing the roots of your heartache with gentleness, safety, and support.
If you’re tired, scared, or feel invisible—please let this be your reminder:
You are seen. You are worthy. You are not alone.
There is hope.
There is healing.
And yes—
There is life after trauma. Lots of beautiful life.
With love and so much hope,
Jeni Brockbank
